Challenge Teams
Challenge-based funding programmes are an agile, fast-paced, solution-focused approach to research funding. They are designed to enable research teams to work directly with project stakeholders to deliver tangible impact through their research, ensuring they are solving the right problem and are developing the best solution. In addition to funding, teams are provided with training and mentoring to support acceleration of an idea and to demonstrate how it can solve real-world problems.
Research Ireland co-funds a number of challenge programmes with partner organisations including Irish Aid, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Defence and the Irish Defence Forces, and Gas Networks Ireland.
