Project Summary

Sustain_Ability, is a five module programme for senior cycle second level students with modules ranging from 40 – 80 minutes in duration. This initiative, informed by the government’s cross departmental ‘Education for Sustainable Development’ (ESD) action plan 2030, supports the new leaving certificate subject Climate Action and Sustainable Development.

It will lay the foundation for student learning about sustainable development at a critical stage in their education when they are thinking about their futures. Programmes are facilitated by JAI business volunteers in partner schools across the country. the project will include a co-creation process involving key stakeholders; students, teachers, guardians, business volunteers, and industry representatives.

Sustain_Ability will include modules on decarbonisation and renewable energy solutions, encouraging students to explore their values and attitudes toward climate action, climate justice and sustainability. . Sustain_Ability will use an action learning approach, developing key transversal skills such as problem-solving, collaboration and adaptability. Students will demonstrate creativity, data analyitics, critical thinking while collaborating, employing communication, persuasion, and task management skills.
