Project Summary
Kinia’s Hydrogen Education Programme aims to contribute to the future of sustainable communities in Ireland by building STEM and Renewable Energy skills and talent. Through hands-on learning and event participation, including the internationally recognised Horizon Education Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP), students will develop interest and innovation in sustainable energy.
The project will engage 260 Educators and 6,000 Students and Young People in knowledge and skills development of hydrogen as a clean energy source, enhance their understanding of renewable energy, and its role in combating climate change. Activities include a three tiered educational programme available to primary, secondary schools and youth services, participation in H2GP (model Hydrogen car ) challenge, and event participation in Kinia Creative Tech Week. The project targets underrepresented groups: including rural, disadvantaged and marginalised communities and gender equity. With bilingual delivery and Kinia Credentials providing a pathway to future-focused green careers, the project will embed in communities through relationships with Educators and is co-created and localised for relevance.
Midlands County Councils are committed to the programme as it aligns with the regions transition strategy to foster sustainable employment pathways in renewable energy and low-carbon technologies following the phased closure of the peat industry.
A key component, the “Powering Gaeltacht Futures” initiative, is supported by Údarás na Gaeltachta and Páirc na Mara, demonstrating a successful regional model for national scaling. This project directly aligns with Ireland’s Climate Action Plan and National Hydrogen Strategy, fostering a skilled, diverse workforce essential for a just energy transition.
