Project Summary
We are all aware of the risk of Internet attacks by cybercriminals on our digital devices at home and work. The more we “digitalise”, the greater risk of cybercrime, making cybersecurity precautions essential to prevent financial loss, social-media manipulation and the disruption of business and societal caused by successful cyberattacks.
Cyber-Futures aims to build more educated, informed and ultimately more resilient cyber citizens. We will achieve this by leveraging our network of cybersecurity and digitalisation experts from academia/industry to stimulate national debate on topical/timely issues at the intersection of digitalisation/cybersecurity, leveraging novel methods including the arts.
Our Cybersecurity Academy will stimulate interest in STEM and cybersecurity careers by exploring real-life digitalisation issues that contribute to the global cybersecurity challenge. In doing so, we will dispel the “men in hoodies” stereotype that is pervasive in the sector by introducing a diverse range of voices and career options in the field, thereby creating pathways for entry into the sector.
Cyber-Futures, will use new/creative ways to engage with citizens through:
1) A custom-designed Cyber-Escape Room for primary and secondary schools, inspired by industry tabletop exercises simulating real-world cyber incidents. This will involve challenges based on everyday technologies, such as autonomous vehicles, simulated in a maze.
2) Integrate cybersecurity with the arts to simulate dialogue, educate and inform citizen through multiple forms, making cybersecurity more accessible, engaging, and memorable.
3) Emerging Technology Video Competition for primary schools, teaching students about technology/digitalisation/cybersecurity, their intersection and challenges through video content, free resources and webinars.
