Project Summary
Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) are transforming our lives in many ways, both foreseen and unforeseen, for good and for bad. The Technology in my Life II (TimL II) project seeks to facilitate a transgenerational debate on what the appropriate, safe and ethical use of technology looks like in the school and the home. TimL II has been designed to move beyond the threshold of the classroom and step into the home where both student and parent/guardian can learn together and inform each other on a variety of topics on the use of technology in daily life. TimL II will evolve from its first iteration by creating a space where the student and their parent/guardian can create an ongoing dialogue specifically including how to use technology in an ethical manner and in accordance with the moral and ethical standards of the school, the child’s home, and society in general.
Experts from the ADAPT Centre and our partners are skilled in facilitating such reflection, dialogue and debate and we’ve shown the materials created for the TimL I project work in the classroom environment. TimL II proposes to use a variety of approaches and co-creation techniques to extend this discussion beyond the classroom and into the home. Essentially, TimL II proposes to facilitate discussion that leads to agreement and the creation of both school and family contracts for responsible, safe and ethical use of tech in our lives.
