Project Summary
Inspiring the Future Ireland (ITFI), as part of South Dublin County Partnership (SDCP) is a FREE, mostly school-based careers education programme that works to inspire and motivate young people to reach their full potential as they transition from school towards economic independence through 3rd level education, apprenticeships, and/or long-term sustainable employment opportunities. ITFI demonstrates a range of career possibilities to young people through positive career role models and demonstrates alternative/non-traditional career pathways such as Access programmes at university, engineering&accounting apprenticeships, on-the-job STEM training & progression opportunities. ITFI has a focus on STEM education & STEM careers and partners with several technology companies including Microsoft, Amazon and Microsoft to achieve this.
25% of our population are from minority backgrounds. South County Dublin is one of the most socially and economically disadvantaged areas in the country. Programmes such as ITFI are vital to ensure our young people are afforded the same opportunities as their counterparts in less marginalized areas. With a database of 600+ volunteer role models, we ensure that every young person engaged can see themselves in a role model, feeling inspired to progress towards sustainable careers and economic independence post-studies.
Our activities include career development workshops, largescale events including college campus visits, events on thematic areas such as STEM, women in workplace & development in creative sectors. We have provided work placements with some of Ireland’s leading employers including Intel, Bank of America & the Houses of the Oireachtas. We also collaborate with Amazon Web Services for their annual ‘Tech-Week.’
