Project Summary

Cork Carnival of Science sets about creating and delivering a large public engagement event that will intertwine science, technology, engineering and maths with playful learning in a fun, open and easily accessible environment.

Located in Fitzgerald Park at the heart of Cork City, Cork Carnival of Science features over 50 STEM providers offering non-stop, family-friendly experiments, interactive activities, games, street cuisine and a packed line-up of live entertainment. Enjoy big top science shows, hands on workshops and drop in activities that include zoo animals, the inner-workings of robots, extracting DNA, testing a “crime scene” for evidence, and so much more!

Taking place over two consecutive weekend days during summer and set in a Victorian public park to deliver a supercharged, super-fun celebration of all things science. Cork Carnival of Science will encompass seven hectares of STEM engagement with the ambition of becoming one of the most exciting and innovative STEM engagement events in Ireland, then in Europe. This free to attend event will be unlike any other on offer in the region and include dynamic demonstrations, engaging experiments, geeky games, and electrifying entertainment combined with tried and tested STEM outreach activities by Research Centres, third level institutions and professional education providers.

The addition of a strong local food offering by established street vendors, live music entertainment, garden games and by utilising Fitzgerald Park’s natural habitat to facilitate guided nature walks, horticulture demos, digital treasure hunts and STEM orienteering will ensure a wide and varied offering to the target audience.
