Mr James Lawless TD, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, today announced the launch of Global Talent Ireland, a bold new initiative to attract outstanding international research leaders to Irish Higher Education Institutions and public research bodies.
Announcing the opening of the recruitment drive, Minister Lawless stated:
“This initiative is a cornerstone of our commitment to building a knowledge-driven economy. By investing in global research talent, we are strengthening Ireland’s position as a hub at the heart of Europe for research excellence, innovation, and opportunity.”
Minister Lawless emphasised the urgency of engagement:
“We strongly encourage prospective applicants to begin engaging with Irish research bodies without delay. Ireland offers a stable, dynamic, and globally connected research environment. We are ready to welcome talented researchers who aspire to make a meaningful impact economically and societally, while advancing their careers here in Ireland.”
Managed by Research Ireland on behalf of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Global Talent Ireland will support the recruitment of both mid-career Rising Stars and established Research Leaders.
The programme will provide the resources needed to establish or relocate world-class research teams in Ireland, enabling them to carry out globally competitive research.
The programme will fund research across all disciplines within Research Ireland’s remit, with a focus on strategic areas of importance to Ireland.
Key features of the programme include:
- A two-stage application process, beginning with an Expression of Interest (EoI) due by 28 August 2025, followed by a full proposal deadline in October 2025.
- Funding to support the relocation and establishment of research teams in eligible Irish host institutions.
- A rigorous peer review and interview process to ensure excellence and strategic alignment.
