The Research Ireland Public Service Fellowship is an initiative which offers researchers a unique opportunity to be temporarily seconded to Government Departments and Agencies (Host Organisations) to work on specific projects where they can add value resulting in mutually beneficial outcomes.  

The 2026 Call is partnering with 26 Government Departments and Agencies, with 71 projects available for application.   

Fellowships can have a duration of between 6 and 12 months if full-time, and between 12 and 24 months if part-time. The maximum award amount is €130,000 direct costs. For further details, see call document. 

Most projects offer hybrid working arrangements and locations include Dublin, Cork, Kildare, Wexford, Kerry, Cavan, Westmeath, Offaly, Mayo, Galway, Sligo and Meath.

Our co-funding partners for the 2026 Call are the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, the Department of Children, Disability and Equality, Department of Health, Environmental Protection Agency, Health Service Executive, Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, and The Electoral Commission.
